Time to shut down

September 15, 2007

The old server, that is. It’s kind of sad. Look at this uptime:

root@phoenix:~# uptime
12:09:02 up 657 days, 12:39, 1 user, load average: 1.14, 1.36, 1.22

Many thanks to the guys at NYCCCP (http://nycccp.net/) for providing stable power and network for the last 2+ years. I’m sorry to see them go under, but I know they’ll pop up again one day. In the meantime, our new home is at SFCCP (http://www.sfccp.net/).

I’m going to have the old server shipped back, in case there is any data we missed.

And…we’re live.

Onward and outward

September 14, 2007

Data is still copying to the new server and we’re on target to move the actual machine (new machine) at 5:30PM PST.

I’ve shut down the marketplace so we don’t lose any data, and I’m about to turn off the mailing lists as well.

Keep checking here for the latest news, but I hope to have everything running by later tonight, with Brett’s help.

New server is almost ready

September 13, 2007

The new server has had its drives installed, OS (debian etch64) and is mostly configured.

I’m beginning to copy over some data and waiting to hear from the colocation site as to when I can put the box in place.

All in all, we’re looking good so far.

Move plan

September 11, 2007

I have ordered an HP DL145 server, which should be arriving any day. I also purchased a pair of Seagate 500Gb SATA drives, which I will use to create a RAID1 mirror.

This will give us plenty of reliable storage on which to grow the site.

Our “old” provider goes offline on 9/15, so I am rushing to meet that deadline. Stay tuned.

September 11, 2007

Guys, my continued thanks for everyone who has been donating funds towards the new server and colocation costs. I will be sending each of you a thank you, as soon as I get a chance!
